Community Living BC (CLBC) Assessments
Supporting Individuals with Diverse Abilities Across British Columbia
At Valley View Therapy & Assessment Inc., we provide formal psychological assessments to support eligibility for services through Community Living British Columbia (CLBC). These evaluations are designed for individuals with developmental disabilities who may benefit from lifelong supports through CLBC’s programs.
Whether you’re a parent seeking clarity about your child’s needs, a young adult transitioning out of school, or an adult looking to access community services, we’re here to guide you through the process with compassion, professionalism, and care.
What Is a CLBC Assessment?
A CLBC assessment is a specialized psychological evaluation used to determine if an individual meets eligibility criteria for CLBC services. These services may include:
- Community inclusion and day programs
- Supported employment
- Residential support
- Life skills training
- Planning and navigation support
CLBC provides services to adults age 19 and older who have developmental disabilities or qualify under the Personalized Supports Initiative (PSI) with a diagnosis such as Autism Spectrum Disorder or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Eligibility is based in part on cognitive and adaptive functioning assessments, conducted by a registered psychologist.
What Does the Assessment Involve?
Each assessment is individualized, but typically includes:
- A comprehensive clinical interview (with the individual and/or caregivers)
- Review of developmental, educational, and medical history
- Standardized cognitive (IQ) testing
- Adaptive functioning assessment
- Review of school records, IEPs, or previous assessments (if available)
- A written psychological report aligned with CLBC’s eligibility requirements
We work collaboratively with families, support workers, and CLBC facilitators to ensure a smooth and respectful process.
Who Should Consider a CLBC Assessment?
You may benefit from this assessment if:
- You or a loved one is approaching adulthood (age 17–18) and may need CLBC transition services
- You are a young or older adult with lifelong support needs
- CLBC has requested updated documentation to determine or confirm eligibility
- A school, physician, or support worker has suggested a psychological assessment for planning services
We work with individuals from diverse cultural, developmental, and linguistic backgrounds, and ensure that each assessment is sensitive to your unique circumstances.
What You’ll Receive
After the assessment, we’ll provide:
- A detailed, CLBC-compliant psychological report
- Documentation of intellectual functioning and adaptive skills
- Information about diagnoses (if applicable)
- Supportive feedback for families or support teams
- Coordination with CLBC or referral sources (with consent)
Our reports are structured to meet the requirements for CLBC service eligibility and are recognized by government and community agencies across British Columbia.
